I tend to read several books at a time. Some take me longer than others, depending on my interest level or the amount of free time I have. However, I have a rule to never give up on a book no matter how much I dislike it or how long it may take me to finish. I think this is why I find it helpful to read more than one book at a time.

Currently, I’m enjoying all of the books I’m reading, but I’ll rank them in order of interest just the same.

Shades of Grey

Lately, I have been thinking about grey moulding.

Grey is really the ultimate neutral – more so than browns by far. Not to mention that after living in Arizona, I’ve grown quite tired of traditional desert colors and houses with a “Tuscan” feel.

Here are some pictures to show you what I mean. What do you think of the idea?

Sarah Ashley Longshore

Sarah Ashley Longshore, a very talented artist, has created a unique series of paintings which combine the beauty and originality of Hermes scarves with my favorite actress of all time, Audrey Hepburn.

I must admit that when I first heard the idea, I thought  it could potentially go very badly, and only the most talented and audacious of artists should even dare attempt the meshing of these two things. However, I believe the work speaks for itself and Longshore deserves a lot of credit.

Check out her website. There’s a lot more where these came from.

Bathroom Demo

This weekend, my very handy father helped me demolish the upstairs guest bathroom. We decided to do this room before the master bathroom, so that we will have somewhere to get ready while the master is under construction.

We  gutted most of the room, except for the drywall that  could be  salvaged. At this point, the room looks pretty scary, and I can’t wait to get it finished!

With about 15 other projects in the works, I don’t really have a time-frame on this one… and since we have the master, and it’s just the two of us, there’s really no rush. I hope to have it finished in the next few months though. Stay tuned for updates!

Wine Clubs

Last night, after browsing through the Williams – Sonoma catalog (apparently this is what I do now… look at catalogs,) I suggested to Matt that we join their wine club. They have three tiers, and I figured we would discuss the merits of each, and then select one that suits our interests.

Well, not only did we not choose a tier, Matt thought we should go another direction entirely… The NRA wine club. Umm… Really?

Their website reads:

“Begin Supporting the NRA with your wine purchases today!

Join the NRA Wine Club today and for every bottle of wine that is purchased, a payment is made to the NRA on your behalf.

As a member, you will enjoy your choice of wines, as low as just $12-$15 per bottles PLUS a FREE 9-piece Custom NRA Engraved Wine Box, a $45.99 value, PLUS, as an NRA member, you are entitled to receive FREE shipping on your first American Cellars Wine Club shipment when you enroll today!”

Now, compare that to the sales pitch at Williams – Sonoma:

“Join us for a unique experience in the enjoyment of wine and food. Our wine experts will introduce you to hand-selected wines from boutique wineries around the world. Working with our advisory board of sommeliers and chefs, we’ve paired each wine with a Williams-Sonoma recipe to create a remarkable harmony of flavors. We take the guesswork out of selecting the right wine and guarantee your complete satisfaction.”

Needless to say, I think we’re on very different pages. Not to mention, I don’t really like to think about hunting deer, or even guns for that matter while I’m drinking wine.

On another note Williams-Sonoma has also paired with several well-known farms to create a line called “butcher shop.”

Has anyone tried it? What did you think?

On Friday, I received a copy of the Wisteria catalog in the mail, and while browsing through, this painting caught my eye.

I’ve been looking for something rather plain but colorful to add to the guest room. Upon further investigation however, something about the texture of the painting bothered me. It just didn’t have the “flow” that I wanted.

So, for much less than I would have paid online, I made one!

Overall, I am much happier with the result, and I had fun as well. (By the way, please ignore the hideous tile. It will be gone soon!)

Now, we just have to wait a few weeks for it to dry (ugh!) and we can hang it up. What do you think of the result?
