Archive for July, 2011

It’s been a while, and for that I apologize. I’ve admittedly been in a bit of a rut. I didn’t have anything inspiring to write, so I decided to follow my mother’s advice… “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

To sum it up… We found out that we needed to replace the entire HVAC unit in our house after we woke up one morning to find several gallons of water running into our closet. After that, we spent about a week without A/C (in and out of hotels,) and July has been full of a few more fun little surprises like that. Anyways, I’m back and my house is cool despite the fact that it is currently 109 degrees outside…

I also have bunch of fun ideas for the house! I just have to decide on something to accomplish this weekend.

#1) I think I’m going to make a picnic table from scratch!!! When finished, it should look something like this:

Sure, I could buy one and cut a whole in it, but I really want the challenge of building it myself! Not to mention the fact that this will be our temporary patio furniture until we get around to revamping the whole backyard, so I don’t want to invest any more in it than I have to. This is definitely something I will do at some point… I’m just not sure that I want that kind of undertaking this weekend. It seems like a project that should be done outside, and as I mentioned before, I am trying to avoid the heat for now.

#2) I’m thinking about changing the paint color in the loft and powder room. It’s always been a bit too blue for me, and I’m thinking I would like something in the same shade, just a bit more grey or muted… Perhaps something like this? Probably even lighter.

#3) I am considering re-upholstering the couch in the loft… MYSELF! Lol… If it doesn’t go well, I will just send it to a professional. I think I’d at least like to try it first though.

Sherry, at Design Indulgence inspired me to give it a try with her bench in this post.

#4) I might just go purchase some white subway tiles and tile a backsplash in the laundry room.  Ultimately, it will look something like this, but with white grout:

In our house, the subways will wrap around and extend to the edge of the counter top on the 2 adjoining walls. I will keep the idea of the stainless steel shelves, but I think I want a marble countertop instead.

So, those are my weekend project options. What do you think I should do?
